- Ingredients:
- 250 g butter
- 200 g sugar
- 500 g flour
- 1 pkg vanilla sugar
- 1 pkg baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 30 g cocoa
- 3 tbsp water
- 3 tbsp sugar
Preparation:

Beat butter with sugar, salt, and vanilla sugar until foamy. Slowly mix in eggs. Mix flour and baking powder. Alternately add flour and milk, beating vigorously.
Pour slightly over half of the mixture into a well-greased cake pan.
Mix water, 3 tbsp sugar, and cocoa and bring to a boil. After the cocoa mixture has cooled, mix with the remaining cake mixture. Pour the dark mixture into the cake pan and draw a fork through the whole mixture to create the typical marble pattern.
Preheat oven to 180° C and place the cake on the bottom rack. Bake for about 60 minutes, then check for doneness. Insert a cake tester into the middle of the cake. If the tester comes out clean, the cake is done. If it does not come out clean, i.e., if there is still cake mixture sticking to the tester, the cake needs more time.
Take the marble cake out of the oven, let it cool somewhat and turn it out.
Tip: The last time we baked the cake it was a bit too dense, so we added a swig of sparkling mineral water the next time. The result was a very light and airy marble cake.
